Too Much Jewelry?

I'm beginning to get a little jewelry-weary. It's all I've made for a couple of weeks now, and I find myself even making jewelry in my dreams.
You know I'm desperate to do something else when I spend a half hour outside pulling weeds, instead of finishing the three necklaces downstairs on my work bench.

New Etsy Listings

I'm getting a few new listings up on my Etsy site as part of my jewelry goals. Check them out if you get a chance.

Goals

I've been scrambling to have enough jewelry on hand for the different stores that carry it (never mind having some on hand for me to feature on my Etsy site). So I'm now setting some new goals:

  1. Make semi-duplicates (one for the store, one for my Etsy site)
  2. Separate out my stock so that I'm not constantly drawing from things I have on my website
  3. Carve out a lot more time to get my stock tripled before craft show season starts.

Lofty goals . . . okay, maybe just number 3, but I'm hoping to achieve them. Craft Show Season officially starts with Art in the Park on May 2nd. I have a feeling it's coming faster than I know.

Meanwhile, I'm also hoping to figure out a strategy to really get my robots going. I love making them more than anything else. How do I find the right market for them?

Any suggestions? Anyone?

Bio

So I'm supposed to be writing a short bio about myself for the "august" boutique, as well as for a new store in Westport which will be showcasing my steampunk jewelry.

Here's the problem: I have no idea how to write about myself. Is this bio supposed to be just facts about what I do, or is it supposed to be the "why" behind what I do?

I have no great ideas or insights on either approach. I know I like to take things apart and put them back together in a new way. I know that the ideas for my jewelry come from trial and error. I can see pictures in my head, but then I have to try them out several different ways before I know it's right. Mostly, for my robots or jewelry, it's just a feeling I have when I know something fits together just right.

So how do I succinctly right about that without sounding like a moron? And do they also want to know things like I'm a stay-at-home-mom of three unruly boys? Do they want to know that I do this "hobby" so I won't go crazy? What fits and what doesn't?

Hmmm . . .

Survival of the "august" Opening

I made it through the opening of Christel Highland's (pictured above) new boutique "august" last Friday. I did my best to dress like an adult . . . complete with semi-adult shoes. But most importantly, I survived.
My jewelry seemed to be very well received, and she said she would need more right away. So all in all, a good night. Anyone wanna come make jewelry with me?

Two More Bots

Here's the two robots I finished through the transient personal revitalization of last week's Spring air.

I'm guessing the big one's name is Sugar, though I haven't quite figured out the smaller one yet. I must meditate on them . . . stories to come later--or sooner if another burst of Spring air comes through.

Website Building

So I'm trying to build a simple 5-page website for my business. This has been a long, frustrating process. Let's just say templates are not my friend.

Eventually, I'd like a site where I can feature each robot, each piece of jewelry, etc., but for now I'm looking for something simple and direct. While I'm definitely not done, I'm looking for any feedback that can be given. Let me know what you think: www.remnantsbyrj.com

Spring May Be Coming

This weather is great! After all the cold and melting muck, the warm sun is a refreshing change. It makes me want to create, and it makes me feel like I can actually finish those two robots that have sat, staring at me, for the last few weeks. Hope is in the air.

Terror

So here's my big news for the day. Christel Highland's store "august" is opening next week. She's having a big opening celebration with fancy adult clothes and adult beverages . . . and as a "designer," I'm supposed to attend. Take a good look at the picture for the flyer and tell me I fit in any way, shape, or form.
Let's just say, I'm completely intimidated. While I was contemplating my horror yesterday, Tony said we'll just have to go shopping for some sort of outfit this weekend. (Apparently my normal men's t-shirt and ragged jeans won't work.) If this is what "up and coming" entails, I'm 100% sure I'm not ready. . .

A Few Completions

I was able to finish a trio of robots today and get their pictures taken. Hopefully they'll be loaded on my Etsy site soon . . . though I've still got stories to write. I like the tall guy the best. His eyes are askew and his nose is quite large.

I have a lot of new ideas and several robots in various stages of completion; it's just getting the time to finish them. I'm hoping to update the Etsy site soon with more steampunk and robots. Keep checking up on it . . .
